Attack on cartoons vs. anime

Ariel Wilson, Reporter

I enjoyed waking up every Saturday morning, with the smell of waffles and maple syrup in the air, running to greet my dad with a big plate of waffles. Then going into the living room to watch cartoons. I still love cartoons but as I got older I got more into shows that had a definite purpose. To make you feel, like Anime.

Everyone says, “Cartoons and Anime is the same thing. Only the graphics are different.” But what people don’t understand is that behind the scenes on Anime they put more feelings and thought into what they draw and write. Most people don’t understand where I’m going with this but I’m here to show you, People recognize Anime as “Big eyes, unrealistic hair and abnormal limb length.” While American cartoons are meant to be funny and although some cartoons do have story lines, they don’t have the feelings and emotion that goes into Anime. Take Attack on Titan and Death Note (Both Anime) for example the story line is a heart filling emotional train wreck. You can’t start an Anime in the middle of a series but with cartoons you can start at any episode and it’d be fine.

American cartoons are meant to be humorous. Even though Anime has humor in it, it’s also meant to be serious. Cartoon network is a whole channel of mainly cartoons all day and until 8:00 at night, right when 8:00 hits it switches over to King of the Hill, Family Guy, and American Dad. Around 11:00p.m. That’s when the Anime starts. Playing reruns or new episodes. Most teens I know stay up that long just to watch the shows they don’t get to anywhere else.

There is a major difference and everyone has his or her own opinion. Mine just happens to be that Anime and American Cartoons are very different but also very alike.
