Senior expenses

Laura Abuhl

Most people don’t think about senior expenses. Its more like “Oh my god, I graduate in a couple months, going to be 18” Money, is not a top priority. But graduation, EXPENSIVE. Senior prom, EXPENSIVE. College, EXPENSIVE.
When you turn 18, most people get bills. Some parents will offer to pay for some things but others put it on the student to do it. I am one of those students who pay for most of my own graduation, prom, and college expenses.
Cap & gown are a $60, thats before you buy all the invitations, thank you cards, and any other extra crap you don’t really need. Then you have to add the party after graduation. Supply food, rent a place, all that fun stuff.
Prom is a huge load of money. Dresses are usually between $200 and $800, don’t forget the overpriced shoes you probably won’t even walk in for all of the night. You’re probably going to go get a tan, nails done, and an overpriced hair job.
College… IS EXPENSIVE. Most parents don’t pay for it and kids are supposed to take care of it.
Dmacc is one of the cheapest places to go and a credit is still $131 per credit hour. That adds up quickly.
Money, money, money. Everything is about money. Its not all fun and games like it sounds. Most people don’t expect it. And for kids who have to pay for it themselves, its a huge shock and most people struggle to get through all the finances themselves.
