New, fresh face at North High

Eli Dalton

Young, fun, short, and all out happy is what North High school gained this year. Her name is Kristy Irwin, age 35. She grew up in Olathe, Kansas, and graduated from Lyon College, Arkansas State University and Emporia State University.

Ten years of her life she cheered and got a scholarship to college to be a cheerleader. She has three kids; Hudson who is eight, Hadley who is six, and Harper who is five, and Irwin is married to her husband,Eric. They have been together for 16 years, and married for 10. Irwin has one of those crazy love stories, the kind of thing you see when you’re watching a romantic movie with your parents. “We started dating the day we meet,” she told me.

You have to enjoy coming to school everyday. You have to truly have the kids’ best interests at heart.

So you can say love at first sight. So when someone says thats not true, they are wrong because it happened to her. But crazy love stories isn’t all she has, one thing I was wondering was if she taught before she came here  “Yes, in Olathe Kansas. I taught at Chisholm Trail, Olathe South.” She taught one year in Arkansas, another in Tennessee and 10 years in Kansas.

She enjoys being at North “It is a very dynamic atmosphere and I really love all the people.”

She spends her free time with family. “I hangout with my kids and husband, and I love to travel.”

Irwin has advice for any future Polar Bears who want to become what she is today, “You have to enjoy coming to school everyday. You have to truly have the kids’ best interests at heart,”she said.

She may be mean once in a while but she is here to make sure school is going to be a fun place not a jail cell, while you are sitting there counting the minutes until you get out. She has every students best interest at heart and she does nothing but try and keep us safe.

Everyday she helps thousands of students to plan out their future and help them to the best of her ability. So next time you see the 5’2”, smiley, blonde in the halls make sure to introduce yourself. Give her a warm hello and let her know that you appreciate the job she is doing in our school.
