All spruced up

One of my favorite times of the year is around the winter holidays. This is true for many other people as well. Something we love about it, is that close knit feeling of being with family and being all warm and cozy.
Honestly, I think that around Christmas time, everyone has this little spark of spirit in them. There’s something about the holidays that simply makes people happy and brings them closer together.
In my opinion, there are three types of Christmas people. The first type is the “I put up my tree a week before Christmas because I have to.” This type just doesn’t see the light of Christmas spirit like others do. But that’s okay! Everyone is a little different.
The second type is the “I think it’s only acceptable to put up my tree and decorations after thanksgiving, anytime before that is just crazy.” Most people wait until after thanksgiving to put up their tree because they don’t want to get in the Christmas spirit before Thanksgiving.
The last type is my favorite. I call this “Oh, it’s the day after Halloween. Time to put up every Christmas decoration I own, CHRISTMAS IS COMING!” I’m talking a full out Christmas Wonderland. And I don’t mean just the tree; I mean rugs, hand towels, place mats, candles, garland, snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, a Christmas village display, Holiday music playing, scentsy warmers, stockings above the fireplace, lights around the roof, and mini trees in each bedroom. Literally the whole shebang.
Lets talk about (drumroll)… snow days. Personally, I just love the days when school calls at the LAST minute, when it’s obvious that it’s snowing in excess amounts, and finally decides to call it. If there’s anything I hate more, it’s waking up early, and knowing you have to leave earlier to school because of the weather. You’re all ready to walk out the door, then right when you’re almost out the door, the school calls for a snow day. Seriously? Like hello, I don’t wake up early for fun.
Another bonus is the seasonal drinks. Starbucks has their yummy peppermint mocha, caramel Brulée latte, and of course the Gingerbread latte. Don’t forget the yummy hot chocolates as well!
I find it acceptable to wear fuzzy socks to school during sweater weather. Don’t deny it, I know that I’m not the only one who does it. The great thing about fuzzy socks is they are so warm. Especially when you wear your warm boots over them. Plus they’re super cute and comfy at the same time.
Christmas break calls for baking and eating yummy goodies, building snowmen, watching Christmas movies, cuddling, and did we mention eating food?
Lastly, I know that all of you just can’t wait to slide all over the street in your car. Just kidding. Obviously sliding on the ice at a red light is one of the scariest things ever when you’re trying to stop, especially when there is a car in front of you.
Be extra careful when you’re driving, the roads are icy. Also make sure you leave your house a few minutes early if there is a fresh blanket of snow outside or if you know for a fact that the roads are slick.
So whether you love the holidays or you don’t care either way, the countdown has already begun. So put on your ugliest sweater and find your holiday spirit and let the festivities begin.
