Shrek the Musical starred Junior Jake Mentzer (Shrek) and Senior Hannah Johnson (Princess Fiona) and nearly 37 other actors for performances on March 31, April 1, April 2, 2017 in the North High auditorium.

The seats began to fill as the curtains moved for the opening night of Shrek the Musical on March 31, 2017 at 7 pm and continued showings on April 1, 2017 at 7pm and April 2, 2017, at 2pm in the North High auditorium.

Nearly 80 students, staff members, and Northside community members teamed up to put on the laughable and catchy story of Shrek’s land being raided by fairytale creatures (Pinocchio, Cinderella, Three Little Pigs, you name it) due to Lord Farquaad. The story continues as Shrek makes a deal with the creatures to give their home back if Shrek can receive his home back. The creatures agree and Shrek ends up meeting the one and only, Lord Farquaad. He ends up with a challenge: In order to get the fairytale creatures their home back, he must find and bring Princess Fiona to Lord Farquaad.

The dance numbers, laughs, and ogre puns made up the show to result in Shrek’s finding of true love.

With 10 weeks of hard work from actors, choreographers, cast captains and pit band, the special story of Shrek came alive in the theatre department’s 2017 musical.
