Schultz’s Shave

Brennan Whisler and Kolby Chup

Brennan Whisler & Kolby Chup – First year boys golf Coach, Derek Schultz, had a unique approach on getting his boys to win. The kids first noticed he was a little on the shaggy side towards the middle of the season. Later on during the weekly driving range practice, as the players were warming up on the putting green Coach Schultz layed a challenge down to his boys. The challenge was, he would shave his beard when they won. A couple weeks passed and coach had grown a full beard with no wins and none in sight.

Then came September, 22. At Waveland Golf Course, Brennan Whisler (SR) shot his lowest score up to that point in the season. Michael Sunga (FR) took second and his lowest score of the season at the meet with the help of an outstanding birdie chip on the eighth hole from about twenty yards out.Their number one golfer, Kolby Chup (JR) took first along with strong play by Brent Warren (JR) to overcome the Huskies. Next day at practice Coach Schultz arrived as he did earlier that year, freshly shaved and with a smile.

After the great win against the Huskies, the boys were narrowly defeated by the Lincoln Railsplitters losing 191 to 186. Kolby Chup took first once more and Brennan Whisler shot 49 on nine holes, his career low, on his Senior Night.
