Coming up on the 2013-2014 season for North High cheer team while everything is taking a new turn. With both new goals and new coaches this year things are about to change.

“I love coaching for North so far!” says the new addition to the Polar Bears coach Kristen Kennedy. She has been involved with some type of cheer leading ever since her freshman year in high school.

“It’s always been a goal to coach for high school and now I have this amazing opportunity!” she said.

Maria Lantz is the second newest addition to the Polar Bear family. “ My first time getting involved with cheer leading was August,1 2013, so I haven’t had a lot of prior knowledge in cheer,” she said.

“There were 46 girls who tried out but only 33 girls who made it,” says Kennedy. That may not seem like a lot but there was only 15 girls who tired out and only 11 girls made it last season.

Junior Anna Stegall has been cheering since her freshman year on varsity. “ I honestly have to say we needed a lot of work before, but this year it will be way better than before.”

She has to say the worst memory she has had cheering was when they were on their way to Sioux city and the bus broke down for two hours when they finally they got to the game it started to rain. They went all that way there just to come back.

Through out the years, North hasn’t had very much luck with the cheer program, but with the drive of our fellow student pride and new coaches, things might just have a positive change.
