A real bad headache, in the need of a shower, and a sore throat, and more motivated than before is what kids in the student section left with Tuesday night, at the North versus Ankeny Centennial basketball game.

“It was my first time being apart of the student section for North, on Tuesday and a part of me doesn’t know if I can do it again,” said sophomore Treyanna Jacques.

Going to overtime twice in the end, North took the win with a 65-62 final score. Students who were on the spirit bus didn’t get back to North until almost 10pm. North is known well for basketball, but also for its upcoming student section which grows more and more every game.

“It’s a group of seniors who leads it, it’s not one direct person. I get chills goosebumps every night,” senior Michael Pham said.  ” More and more people are coming to the games, the student section shows that we’re better than people think we are,” Pham said.

Being inside the student section chanting ‘Let’s go bears, Let’s go’ while the players are running up in down the court, is so inspiring and you just feel a part of something important.

Every game there is a theme for what people in the student section should wear. Tuesday night the theme was “neon out.” Annie Hayes, Cameron Fisher, and Pham sit down before every game and see what they’ve done what they haven’t done, and come up with something unique.

Every now and then the boys on the bench would be turn around and motion for us be louder, and we’d accept the command willingly, being even louder than before.

“The point of being in the student section is to be loud, and have fun. Also to show school spirit,” freshman Tierra McGowan said. “We was just turnt up.”

The student section Tuesday night was just that too. Turnt up. Regardless of going home smelling a little funny, hair poofy, with a terrible migraine. We took that win, Bear’s Den.
